The President of the Republic visited the Portalegre Training Centre of the School of the National Republican Guard (GNR) Guard, attended training and learning sessions and toured the facilities where the servicemen of this security force receive their training.

During the ceremony that took place in the chapel of the ancient Convent of St. Bernard, President Cavaco Silva addressed a speech and decorated, with the Grand Cross of the Order of Prince Henry the navigator, the GNR Commandant, Lieutenant General Manuel Couto.
