Military exercise in Troia
The President of the Republic attended, in Troia, the military demonstrations carried out within the scope of NATO Exercise “Trident Juncture 2015”, held during the last few weeks in several Regions of Portugal and of other members of the Atlantic Alliance.
Received by the NATO Secretary General, by the Minister of National Defence, by the Chief of the Armed Forces General Staff and by several national and foreign civil and military bodies, President Cavaco Silva attended the “Distinguished Visitors’ Day”, visited a static exhibition and watched demonstrations included in exercise “Harbour Protection” and an Amphibious Landing Operation.
The Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces had the opportunity to witness the degree of operational preparation of Portuguese and allied troops, and the extreme complexity comprised in the coordination and integration of different countries’ means.
The President of the Republic was briefed on the joint preparation and planning of NATO activities – this being an organization of which Portugal is a founder member and a committed partner for more than six decades – as well as on the actions of the Portuguese troops in the logistics support provided and in the operational employment of their forces, involving 3,000 servicemen and various means from the three branches of the Armed Forces.
